[SEP 39] [OBRA] Public API Development and Continuation of SafeDAO Governance Analytics Dashboard Services - Curia

Initiative Title:
[Draft] [OBRA] API Development and Continuation of SafeDAO Governance Analytics Dashboard Services - Curia

Abstract:
This proposal seeks to extend the SafeDAO Governance Analytics Dashboard for an additional six months. The continued operation of this service will ensure uninterrupted access to governance insights and analytics, fostering data-driven decision-making within the SafeDAO ecosystem. The extension will build on the current infrastructure, incorporating community feedback and any governance changes, such as the upcoming split delegation. After working closely with the Safe Foundation team, we identified a growing demand for the data in API format, as requested by Safe governance team. To meet this demand, we propose expanding our services to include an API, allowing other platforms and third parties to access and utilize the dashboard’s data. The monthly governance analytics reports will remain a central feature, providing accessible insights into voting patterns, participation, and proposal dynamics.

Aligned Strategy:
Wildcard

Funding Request:
$50,000 USD to support the working team, infrastructure costs, and the development of public API & monthly governance analytics reports from October 2024 to March 2025 (6 months).

Infrastructure Costs:
$9,000 USD for 6 months at $1,500 per month, exclusively allocated for operating the SafeDAO Governance Analytics Dashboard.

Team Costs:

  • Project Manager (PM): $10,000 USD (154 hours @ $65/hour)
  • Engineers (2): $19,980 USD total ($9,990/engineer; 111 hours/engineer @ $90/hour)
  • Governance Data Analyst: $7,980 USD (114 hours @ $70/hour)
  • Contingency and On-demand Resources: $3,040 USD (Fixed amount for unforeseen expenses)

Relation to Budget:
50% of the remaining budget on Wildcard Strategy

Metrics and KPIs:

  • Number of Monthly Visitors
  • Number Link Clicks to Voting Portal
  • Number Mentions & References from Delegates and forums
  • Number of API Requests

Initiative Description:
This extension will maintain and enhance the SafeDAO Governance Analytics Dashboard, continuing the focus on producing insightful monthly reports. The dashboard will cover ongoing infrastructure costs, respond to community feedback, and adapt to any governance updates. A significant addition will be the development of an API that allows other platforms and third parties to integrate with the dashboard’s data. This decision stems from our collaboration with the Safe Foundation team, where we recognized a strong demand for API access to governance data. Expanding this capability will broaden the utility and impact of the analytics, enabling more stakeholders to leverage the insights in various contexts.

Monthly Reporting:
The continuation of monthly reporting will include:

  • Data Interpretation and Analysis: Ongoing analysis to transform complex metrics into understandable insights, with a focus on trends, patterns, and anomalies.
  • Focus on Key Governance Metrics: Detailed reports covering voting patterns, delegate performance, proposal outcomes, and shifts in voting power distribution.
  • Actionable Insights: Continued emphasis on providing recommendations based on the data, including areas for improvement in participation and governance practices.
  • Customized Content Based on Community Feedback: Reports will remain responsive to the interests and needs of the SafeDAO community.
  • Visual Data Representation: Continued use of charts, graphs, and infographics to make data accessible.
  • Historical Context and Comparative Analysis: Ongoing contextualization of data within the broader governance landscape, including comparisons with other DAOs where relevant.

Current Status:
The SafeDAO Governance Analytics Dashboard is fully operational, providing essential services to the SafeDAO community. Key features include:

Tracking of votable supply within SafeDAO

Hey @v3naru - thanks for this proposal.

I’ve been impressed with the quality and utility of the initial Safe Governance Analytics dashboard and would love for it to continue playing a key role in SafeDAO coordination.

Can you give examples of where you imagine the API is most useful/valuable?

@LuukDAO Thank you for your support!

Great question! The API will enhance access to governance data across the SafeDAO ecosystem. Here’s are some of the example use-cases:

Integration with Tools: Third-party platforms and developers can pull data directly, enabling seamless integration into their tools, if they want to have these insights on their platforms. For instance, initiatives like Governland and Lighthouse, approved in previous sprints (SEP 30 and SEP 35), could also integrate this data.

Research & Analysis: Researchers can access data for in-depth studies, uncovering trends and measuring the impact of governance changes.

The API aims to make governance data more actionable and accessible for all stakeholders. I’m happy to discuss further if you have more questions!

Are there any extant metrics from the current dashboard, alongside the anticipated data requisites for the API?

We plan for the API to provide access to most, if not all, of the current metrics, and we’re also open to supporting more tailored data queries. If there’s any specific data you’d like us to consider for an endpoint, please let us know.

I hope this clarifies things! Let me know if you need more details.

As a delegate with sufficient voting power, I consider this proposal ready to move to a vote.
