Has the product focus shifted from the desktop app to the web app?

I don’t recall seeing a public announcement to update users on the product shift. If I did not miss a public announcement, then it could be good to update users through social channels and in-app notifications so that they can prioritize using the web over the desktop app in order to have the latest updates and theoretically be more secure.

This is great to know!

I wonder what the security tradeoffs between the web and desktop apps are.

  • It seems that the desktop app has a smaller attack vector because it runs locally from a user’s machine
  • The web app is potentially easier to update and can receive security updates faster
