Safe Grants Council Nominations

Candidate Proposal @0xEmerson

I’m nominating myself as a Business/Product council member

Here is my twitter verification link

Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:

On top of managing the portfolio at LongHash Ventures (which has invested in Safe, Coinshift, and Cowswap; and is the only venture fund that’s a Safe Guardian), I have evaluated:

  • More than 400 projects across smart account infrastructure, web3 social, and DAO tooling,
  • More than 50 projects in the Safe ecosystem.

I specialise in sourcing and evaluating projects building smart account infrastructure because I’m passionate about improving crypto UX to onboard and retain the masses. I strongly align with Safe’s open, modular, and security-first approach to smart accounts, and believe that it will unlock the innovation necessary to serve as the default account infrastructure for the next waves of crypto users.

As part of project evaluation in the smart account infra space, I’ve already mapped out the landscape (by vertical and tech stack) and developed theses for the types of projects that would push the smart account & Safe ecosystems forward. I’ve also had multiple discussions with core and community members at SafeDAO about Safe tokenomics.

Hence, I’m excited to bring the knowledge, network, and research to ensure an efficient allocation of grants for the open Safe ecosystem.

Relevant links:

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

Signing abstraction

  • Middleware providing tools for wallet and dApp developers to easily build Safe {Core} wallets with popular signature schemes (e.g. MPC auth, Secure Enclave Face/Touch ID)

Logic modules

  • Transaction delegation module that allows dApps/wallets to execute transactions for end-users within user-specified limits
  • Scam prevention module for Safe-powered wallets
  • Privacy module that obfuscates Safe transactions on-chain
  • A curated registry of Safe ecosystem modules

Execution & Infrastructure

  • Cross-chain abstraction of account creation and execution, closing the gaps between where Safe wallets are created and where transactions are executed
  • Secure session key storage infrastructure serving developers looking to integrate session keys to their Safe wallets
  • Decentralised paymasters that crowdsource tokens to ensure extensive token coverage
  • MEV searcher for bundled transactions

Looking into the far future, I believe the endgame for smart accounts is an AutoGPT-powered personalised smart wallet that takes user intent (e.g. Let me borrow 3 Axies for 30 days at the lowest price) and executes transactions for users securely while remaining non-custodial. Highly capable teams building in this direction should be supported.

Vote for me because:

  • I specialise in research in smart account infrastructure, web3 social, and DAO tooling as an early-stage venture investor
  • I evaluate projects in the above areas on a day-to-day basis, and am the PIC to evaluate Safe ecosystem projects, including Safe hackathon participants
  • I’ve built theses for the infrastructure required to push the Safe smart account ecosystem forward, which will allow me to evaluate potential grants efficiently

Snapshot short intro:

On top of managing the portfolio at LongHash Ventures, I’ve evaluated >400 projects across smart account infrastructure, web3 social, and DAO tooling, including >50 Safe ecosystem projects. Hence, I can offer my learnings, ecosystem mapping, and theses to the Grants Council, so we can evaluate grant applications in an efficient, research-driven manner.

Do you have a technical / background?

No, but as I manage the portfolio at LongHash Ventures, I collaborate with technical founders on a day-to-day basis. and look forward to working closely with Technical Reviewer on the Council.

Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:

I’ve been in the Ethereum space since 2015 and I’ve experiences all its ups and downs. I have an extensive network and understanding of how Ethereum works and where it needs to go to achieve mass adoption and improve the world. I’m especially interested in making Ethereum useable for the masses and I believe that Safe and its focus on account abstraction is an important step in the right directions to do that.
I have been very interested in scaling Ethereum since the very early days and worked on the Raiden Network in order to achieve that. I believe the work we put in there paved the way for better alternatives over time.
More recently I’ve been running the Beamer Bridge team and have in this capacity several times realized how important a role AA will play in the future of Ethereum.
I am the proud owner of one of the first Safes deployed on mainnet dating back to early 2020 and I still have a Gnosis Multisig Wallet that I use from time to time.
I am already a Safe Guardian and a big fan of Safe.

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

  • Anything that makes Ethereum safer and easier to use for everyone
  • Projects that focus on making the use of Safes best practice in regards to asset management
  • Privacy solutions for Safes
  • zk Safes → hidden owners for example
  • Book keeping tools for companies or people using Safes for asset management and payroll

Vote for me because:

  • I have been around since 2015 and I am still around because I deeply believe in what we’re collectively trying to achieve with Ethereum
  • I’ve been using Safe since early 2020 and have ideas and opinions about what needs doing to improve and grow the Safe ecosystem
  • I’ve been doing everything from smart contract dev, comms, running a team, raising funds so I know all aspects to building a good product which is why I believe the wildcard seat is best for me
  • I used to be responsible for the Raiden Trust grants program so I have experience reviewing grants already

Snapshot short intro:

I’ve been around since the Gnosis Multisig Wallet and used it extensively. I created one of the first Safes and have been in close conversation with the team since then. I have more experiene working in the Ethereum space than most and have good technical knowledge as well as business.

Do you have a technical / background?

  • I wrote the initial version of the Raiden smart contracts back in 2016
  • I was part of the python team developing Raiden the two years after that
  • I play around with new tools on a weekly basis and have good knowledge of the general Ethereum stack

Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:###

Hi everyone. I am a repeat founder, YC alum and DAO governance, venture and public goods contributor from Ukraine. In 2017 I built CryptoHire - a platform for hiring blockchain engineers and paying them in crypto. It later became known as YouTeam, receiving backing from Y Combinator in 2018. Since then we have built it out into a highly profitable business. I moved on to supporting, consulting and advising startups.

I have been a contributor to a number of DAOs. Currently I am an elected member of a governance committee at Orange DAO as well as a member of the Venture Team there. As a governance team member I build and execute processes and rules for the seamless functioning of the DAO, as well as look after certain sub-committees such as Technoogy, Marketing, Membership etc. We are active users of SAFE multisigs as well as some products from the SAFE ecosystem (e.g. Multis).

As a Venture Team member I have reviewed many hundreds of applications and conducted numerous calls with startup founders raising their pre-seeds, seeds or looking for grant funding. I would love provide a positive contribution to the Safe Grants programme and I feel confident I can do this based on my ability and recent experience at Orange DAO.

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

  • Solving bad UX/UI, which crypto is sadly famous for (i.e. Account abstraction)
  • Building up on recent developments in security and privacy of applications
  • DAO and community tooling
  • Infrastructure improvement projects

Vote for me because:

  • Assessing startups and founders is my job. Since February, as a Venture Team member at Orange DAO, I have been through hundreds of applications and calls with early stage web3 startups applying for grants or funding.
  • I have shown excellent judgement throughout this process - over 70% of companies I recommended to a GP call have raised investment from Orange DAO.
  • I will drive the number of applications up. I am in constant communication with many founders through my activities. For example, I am part of the team that is currently researching / building treasury and community management tools for web3 startups.

Snapshot short intro

I am a repeat founder, YC alum and DAO contributor from Ukraine. This year, as a member of the Venture Team at Orange DAO I have reviewed hundreds of applications for funding. Over 70% of companies I recommended or highlighted as worthy of investment ended up raising money from the DAO.

Do you have a technical background?

I have a business and product management background, however I have self taught myself SQL (mostly to run blockchain analytics dashboards), JS and some other front end technologies for prototyping.

Providing comprehensive context can be challenging, so I invite you to visit my LinkedIn for information on my background. Feel free to post any questions or DM me.

Now, let’s delve into my experiences that make me an ideal fit for the role…

Mentoring hundreds of founders

I have mentored over 200 founders and web3 projects at their early stages, guiding them through the process of taking their startups from zero to one. Notable projects I’ve worked with include PUSH Protocol, Coinshift, Pods, Wonderverse, Chainforest etc.

5 years in Web3:

Cofounder, Gitcoin Kernel

  • 3 years of practice reviewing 1000s of applications every cohort → Interviewing 30% → onboarding them into the world of Kernel and web3.
  • Running the Kernel Build Track, and Supporting projects with idea validation, reaching MVP, launching to the community and fundraising.
  • A Weekly Kernel Ritual I host is Mentors x Founders speed dating. One hour for critical feedback, ask to answer, and relationship building. Participants are Founders x contributors at EF, L2s, L1s, public good ecosystem, and Investors from a16z, paradigm, variant etc.

Ecosystem Growth, Polygon

Handled 30% of the Polygon’s ecosystem. Wrote RFPs, disbursed grants to infrastructure, security and gaming projects. Judged hackathon projects. Launched promotional campaigns for DApps launching on Polygon.

Building themed ecosystems:

Investing and fundraising experience:

I have fundraised for my projects, and helped fundraise Kernel projects raise over $200M+. I also Angel Invest. Active Investor, Contributor at HydraVentures.

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

SAFE ecosystem is naturally the most responsible, and capable of bringing deep fundamental changes at Wallet and Application level. It can enable the three transitions Vitalik speaks about in his latest piece

image

  • Multi-chain UX: Using Chain Abstraction, SAFE can provide multi-chain UX. Users can deploy SAFE and interact via it from any supported chain, using any token, all without ever leaving your UI. Opening access to DeFi opportunity for users.

  • Privacy-preserving fund-transfers: I would love to see solutions that are privacy-preserving and maintain onchain accountability of SAFE Treasury leveraging ZKPs

  • Any AA use case is relevant and SAFE is already spearheading one of three transitions “Smart Contract Wallets” . I would love to see more tool kits built for “Shared distributed verifiable systems (Github / OpenQ <> SAFE)”, “data daos (Filecoin <> SAFE)” etc.

There is a possibility that the SAFE ecosystem will offer comprehensive toolkits as verified and secure modules. Developers will have the opportunity to run these modules as SAFE nodes, opening up potential utilities for $SAFE.

Vote for me because:

  1. I have relevant experience for the Role. Writing RFP(s), reviewing / judging ideas, working with founders from idea validations towards a successful launch. Strong Network of investors and advisors.

  2. I can easily commit 10-15 hrs / week required. :star:

  3. As an engineer, I can also supervise projects with technical expertise.

Snapshot short intro:

Nomad at heart, currently enjoying my creative sabbatical in Japan.

SAFE ecosystem is naturally the most responsible, and capable of bringing deep fundamental changes at Wallet and Application level. I want to contribute to SAFE ecosystem by doing what I do best. Mentoring and supporting builders.

I am cofounder of Gitcoin KERNEL, ex-Polygon. Investing HydraVentures

Both my parents uses SAFE to manage portions of their crypto portfolio. I would love to see SAFE eventually debank-ing or atleast dex-ing us all.

Towards a more $SAFE future

Do you have a technical background?

Yes, I have bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering.

I started as a builder in web3 and participated in 30+ hackathons and later, launched products via my development studio. Here are some artifacts:

  1. Designed buidl track of Kernel.
  2. :hammer_and_wrench: web2 spinoff of Gitcoin grants: Downtown Stimulus with Kevin Owocki and Vitalik Buterin.
  3. Contributed at eth2-pm repo

I’m nominating myself as a Wild Card Council member

Here is my Twitter verification link

Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:

I’m an engineer with a strong analytical mind. This led me to become a data scientist. I worked in a company where we build software that help track software project KPIs.

A very famous quote “We can’t manage what we don’t measure” is something I learned, we were tracking many software metrics and had to choose from these metrics to build the most relevant dashboards. I participated in adding, creating, and displaying some new metrics. I also pushed forward the data science part by using machine learning to detect bugs in the source code.

If I’m elected as a member of the safe grant council I will promote the use of data to monitor and understand what makes a good application and a successful grantee other the long run. To successfully track those applications and grantees I will push forward for the creation of KPI. This will enable better reports and facilitate the next grant rounds.

Since November 2022, I have been a very active contributor to the OpenData Community. This community aims to mitigate fraud on the blockchain and data re-centralisation at the data layer. During these months I have participated in hackathons where I developed methods to automatically review project applications to Gitcoin grants you can find some of the points I have been raising in this Readme. I also developed an automated analysis to detect Sybil behavior on those grants to prevent a misallocation of funds. I furthermore mentored and trained hackathon participants to guide them in their sybil hunting and hackathon submission.

This experience gives me credibility around my capacity to review and analyze the problems at hand and come up with semi-automated methods that improve and facilitate the work of round operators.

Besides that, I’m used to meeting up with other crypto-passionate IRL in France every week. I’m more of a listener than a talker. I know that I will be so passionate about understanding and reviewing the projects that I will probably dedicate more time than expected.

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

  • Grantees that want to be involved at 100% in the project they are receiving a grant for.
  • Applications around privacy preserving SAFE using zk proofs
  • Institutional-grade SAFE management platforms
  • Leveraging the power of account abstraction
  • Automatic safe creation from Dao governance

Vote for me because:

  • As a member of the OpenData Community I reviewed more than 100 project applications manually on the Gitcoin Beta Round.
  • I helped detect several thousands of suspicious addresses in the Gitcoin Beta Round.
  • I have a strong analytical mind and I want to create new ways to monitor and track the progress of SAFE grant rounds.
  • My experience both in software engineering and data science will make me a versatile person inside the grant council.

Snapshot short intro:

I’m Poupou, I’m a data scientist. As a core contributor to the OpenData Community, I helped review more than 500 Gitcoin grants project applications using semi-automatic methods I built myself. I also run clustering and Sybil detection methods on the voters to prevent quadratic funding misallocation. I’m a listening and avid learner that would like to bring more data to the SAFE grant process.

Candidate Proposal @sohkai

I’m nominating myself as a [Technical] council member

Here is my twitter verification link

Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:

Hi Safe DAO, my name is Brett and I’m very excited to be applying for a technical council seat!

I’m an active technical contributor to the Ethereum ecosystem who currently co-leads Cherry Crypto, a first check crypto fund. My efforts are focused around investing into and supporting the ecosystem’s best entrepreneurs and teams with research, technical support, and strategic mentorship, working closely with teams such as CoW Protocol and Morpho.

I first began my journey as a developer in the Ethereum ecosystem in 2017, when I joined Aragon as its lead engineer before transitioning into the CTO of Aragon One, Aragon’s seeding development organization. Along the way I’ve had the pleasure to contribute to projects such as Decentraland and Synthetix through either technical integrations or as a security board/multisig member.

My day-to-day responsibilities and strong technical background align well with the skillset needed to analyze, review, and mentor grantees. In particular, I have a long history of reviewing and supporting contributors from the smallest of bounties to the largest of grants—at Aragon we were amongst the first in the ecosystem to issue both small bounties and larger grants to seed now-prominent projects such as 1Hive, Althea, DappNode, Frame wallet, and Prysm. I’ve personally helped write, review, and judge both applications and grant funding milestones across many organizations and grantees.

Finally, a brief highlight of my technical background (expanded in later section): at Cherry Crypto, I help our portfolio CTOs with engineering topics and am routinely the first external reviewer to their codebases ahead of any professional auditors or other community members. Previously at Aragon, I led its prior flagship frontend, the Aragon Client, alongside its modular DAO-building framework in Solidity, aragonOS.

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

  • Extensions towards and unique integrations of Safe’s Safe{Core} SDKs: we’ve achieved the first million (well, actually almost 3m) Safes created, but I believe the next 100 million will come from developers leveraging their creativity to include the Safe as an account abstraction module in the next generation of workflow, operations, and user-facing wallet applications. The core Safe team has done an incredible job in seeding the initial developer toolkit but grants are a phenomenal way to open up the product process to be inclusive to the wider community.
  • Enhanced frontends or visual explorers: the core Safe frontend and backend infrastructure serve their purpose well, but will not be able to do everything for everyone as the space and usage of the Safe matures. One such example comes from Metropolis, which was started before Safe DAO came into existence, and which may have benefited from an early partnership with the core Safe team and DAO through an open grants process.
  • Exploratory work towards legal reconciliation and/or wrappers: as we’ve become keenly aware as of late, crypto is increasingly facing regulatory clarity and both DAOs and on-chain operations relying on the Safe are facing questions.
  • SafeDAO token economics: I would be remiss to not highlight grants programs as great avenues to encourage community members to help the core Safe team and wider SafeDAO ecosystem in exploring effective token economics.

Vote for me because:

  • I have a strong and proven technical background, aligning well with the skillset needed to review and judge grants from both their technical and business merits

  • I’m passionate about DAOs, account abstraction, and modular smart account architectures and have deep experience using them in both operational and governance use cases

  • I’ve been on both sides of the grant process, from contributing to DAOs, to leading Aragon’s seed development company (funded through grants), to helping manage grant processes

  • I hold a high regard for grant programs, having seen successes in recent programs such as CoW Protocol’s and Nouns’, and want to contribute towards making Safe’s program equally successful

Snapshot short intro:

I currently co-lead Cherry Crypto, where my efforts are focused around technical research and support both across the wider Ethereum ecosystem and within portfolio companies. Prior, I was the CTO at Aragon, having led efforts towards its flagship frontend, the Aragon Client, and DAO-building framework, aragonOS since 2017.

Do you have a technical / background?

Yes, I have held a technical role within the Ethereum ecosystem for the last six years. Prior to that, I helped build one of the first “proof of time stamping” (effectively NFTs) protocols on the Bitcoin network in 2015 before Frontier was live.

Within Ethereum, I’ve contributed towards:

  • Aragon’s flagship frontend, the Aragon Client, and its underlying modular DAO-building framework, aragonOS. This frontend and framework govern some of the ecosystem’s largest DAOs today, including daily operations for both Curve and Lido.

  • Synthetix’s Atomic Orders v1 (SIP-120), integrating Uniswap V3 TWAPs as a price oracle into Synthetix’s v2 order execution architecture

  • Informal code reviews of friendly or portfolio companies related to Cherry Crypto pre-or-post investment, including Brahma, CoW Protocol, DebtDAO, Gearbox, and Morpho

Ethereum wallet Address:

brettsun.eth

Conflicts of Interest Statement:

I hereby declare all material potential conflicts of interest that may be relevant for this role to the Safe DAO Community:

Given my current role and long prior experience within the Ethereum ecosystem, I may hold prior relationships with teams and/or individual members who submit grant applications (eg. friends, ex-colleagues, past grantees of Aragon, etc).

I will strive to declare any further material conflicts of interest during or ahead of reviewing any grant applications, and in such cases, communicate with the Safe team and other reviewers to discuss the best course forward. All views expressed will be my own and not representative of Cherry Crypto or any other parties.

I may personally, or through Cherry Crypto, hold equity or token stakes in projects that may benefit either operationally or usage-wise in further integrations with Safe. A non-exhaustive list includes:

  • Aragon

  • AAVE

  • Balancer

  • Brahma

  • Compound

  • CoW Protocol

  • Decentraland

I have received a grant from IoTeX to establish their grant program and have also worked closely with the Program Manager of Compound Grants Program 2.0. I have spoken to more than 100 builders and teams over the last 6-8 months and understands what it takes to make a grant program successful - from both the program manager and builder perspectives.

As a Council Member, I would like to highlight several contributions that I can offer.

Increased transparency: I will strive to maintain more transparency in the grants program and in the allocation of funds. The team and community can easily track how funds are being used and how they contribute to the overall success of the grants program.

Clear evaluation criteria: I will establish clear evaluation criteria for grant proposals to ensure maximum efficiency in evaluating and selecting proposals that align with the goals of the grants program.

Community involvement: I will actively involve the community in decision-making for the grants program through regular communication channels and feedback mechanisms.

Impact measurement: I will prioritize impact measurement and regularly report on the outcomes and impact of the grant program to the community, ensuring accountability and transparency.

Building relationships and empowering builders: I will prioritize building strong relationships with builders, teams, and stakeholders, fostering a culture of collaboration and support within the grants program and the broader ecosystem. I will work to empower builders by providing them with the resources, support, and guidance needed to succeed, and by creating opportunities for them to connect.

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

  1. Social Recovery:
    • Development of user-friendly interfaces or mobile applications that facilitate the implementation of social recovery mechanisms in Safe.
    • Research and development of novel approaches to social recovery, such as multi-factor authentication or decentralized identity systems.
    • Creation of educational resources or tutorials to help users understand and leverage social recovery features effectively.
    • Integration of social recovery mechanisms with popular decentralized applications (dApps) or wallets to enhance user experience and security.
  2. Safeguards:
    • Development of advanced security measures, such as hardware wallet integrations, biometric authentication, or multi-signature schemes, to enhance the security of Safe.
    • Implementation of smart contract auditing tools or security analysis frameworks specific to Safe to identify vulnerabilities and recommend best practices.
    • Research and development of decentralized governance mechanisms to ensure transparent decision-making and mitigate potential risks.
    • Creation of educational materials or guidelines for users on best practices for securing their Safe, including tips for avoiding phishing attacks and protecting private keys.
  3. Private Confirmations:
    • Exploration of privacy-enhancing technologies, such as zero-knowledge proofs or secure multi-party computation, to enable private confirmations of transactions within Safe.
    • Development of protocols or frameworks for anonymous voting or decision-making processes within Safe’s governance systems.
    • Research and implementation of techniques to enhance transaction privacy, such as transaction batching or off-chain privacy solutions.
    • Integration of privacy-focused cryptocurrencies or privacy-preserving networks with Safe to provide users with enhanced privacy options.

Vote for me because:

  • I have seen both sides of the journey, from the builder’s perspective while applying for grants, and from the grants manager’s perspective. I know what it takes to run a successful grants program.
  • I will strive to make the grants process more decentralized and transparent, ensuring that the community is informed about the parameters on which grants are funded.
  • I am available at the mentioned time and can commit 10-15 hours of my time.

Hi @Juandi can you please specify which of the two seats you intended to apply for?

We updated rules just before nominations launched to only allow candidacy for one seat.

You replied to Juandi but used me as a quote by mistake I think.

Lol sorry for the confusion. I believe there’s one too many in Wildcard so I’ll apply for the Business seat

I have received application form submissions for the below users.

@liorg
@zer8_future
@juandi
@SanLeo461
@v3naru
@calmbro
@_Carla
@adamhurwitz.eth
@unjoursurterre
@richa

If you submitted a council nomination proposal, but your name is not on this list, you now have a few precious hours to submit the application form before I make a final cut.

If not submitted by the time I conduct Snapshot uploads for grants council elections, your candidacy will not be put up to vote as the submission is unfortunately not valid without the form.

Important for all: see earlier post re our Twitter Space on Wednesday where all candidates can introduce themselves.

Can we see information about the space somewhere? I filled the form, but didn’t get any info yet. Or should we just keep an eye out for the space around 1800 CEST?

Hi @czepluch the Twitter Space can be put in calendar here
