Introducing DAOstewards

Summary

Helloo Safe frens, we are DAOstewards, a governance delegation from BanklessDAO. we are here to bring good vibes, add value and help shape the future of SafeDAO through governance participation. Nice to meet y’all! :100::v:t5::zap:🫱🏾‍🫲🏿

Background

BanklessDAO is active in governance participation and implementation of proposals, with over 3000 members participating in governance. The Safe multisigs are one of the essential infrastructural tools for BanklessDAO, on our mission to create user-friendly onramps to help people go Bankless.

BanklessDAO, building a social DAO in public and we want to bring this perspective to SafeDAO, which we believe will be a crucial infrastructure for our movement.

DAOStewards

DAOStewards are a group of “Governators” from BanklessDAO. We are passionate about DAO governance and engage with web3 communities with goal of representing the values and ideals of the Bankless movement within the greater ecosystem.

Our Values

United we stand: We believe decentralisation is paramount in web3 governance. We aim to be the voice of everyday users.

Net positive engagement: We represent a community aiming to empower all parties involved and develop in a positive-sum manner.

Quality participation: We believe the quality active contributors could help a DAO evolve. We aim to deliver the best quality of work with minimum bureaucracy.

Bankless Lifestyle: As a group from BanklessDAO, we aim to enable more people to exit their reliability on legacy institutions and fully embrace internet-native digital organisations.

How do we work

We select value-aligned contributors from BanklessDAO to become delegates in our DAOstewards work stream. The work stream participants meet weekly for every protocol in which we exercise meta-governance and discuss our voting strategy and how to pursue the agenda inspired by our values.

Voting power

BanklessDAO received almost 80,000 tokens from the SAFE airdrop, and we are consolidating this voting power under our Metropolis pod daostewards.eth

Why should you delegate to us?

Unlike other meta-governance groups, which are spun up as governance consultancies or represent the interests of smart-contract-based protocols, we at DAOStewards are driven purely by the values of our community. Our goal is to increase the adoption of the entire ecosystem (not a particular protocol), so when you delegate to us, you amplify potential users’ voices.

You can delegate to us at daostewards.eth

We look forward to actively participating in the SafeDAO governance and welcome any questions or comments you may have.

Hey, Bankless; thanks for this initiative. I always tune into your podcast now and then.
Happy to delegate my SAFE to you, but I want to address the following questions.

  1. how is the internal decision-making of the team
  2. What influence do the podcast hosts have in this governance group ( As they are investors across the Defi space)
  3. what is your conflict of interest?
  4. how can we know your voting pattern and area of expertise?

I expected to see all these added to your initial proposal.

Thank you for your questions @Gatekeeper

  1. We run weekly syncs and talk about proposals. Internally we run a sesh poll to decide the outcome

  2. David & Ryan (BanklessHQ) have been inactive in the DAO since inception. They only join us on seasonal Twitter spaces.

  3. We don’t have any conflicts when it comes to SAFE

  4. You can follow our Twitter page https://twitter.com/DAOplomats for voting updates. As for area of expertise, most of us have been working in BanklessDAO over the past 18 months and we have developed a keen understanding on what it takes to create, build and sustain a community purely funded by the native token. Unlike other governance experts, who relay on a steady flow of stables from protocols to make their community tick, we have no such privileges, we purely align the values of the community based on the native token emissions.

DAOstewards.eth joined the Safe DAO in October 2022 to facilitate the Bankless mission and enable individuals to self-custody. We aim to facilitate the self-sovereignty of individuals and DAOs by engaging in the governance of essential operational tools of Web3.

DAO and projects like FightClub.vc, BanklessDAO Sismo.eth have delegated their $SAFE tokens to us so far to safehold one of their essential on-chain components.

Our engagement at Safe DAO

The DAOstewards members have been actively engaged in the Safe DAO forums and have given feedback on relevant and interesting proposals.

Other than just giving feedback on proposals, we have also tried to understand the general pain points of DAO and tried to increase decentralisation and community member engagement.

Title: [SEP] Improve Communication in SafeDAO
Authors: @links on behalf of Bankless DAOstewards
Edits: @thinkDecade , @Paulito, @0xBaer
Created: 2022-11-30

Our first Proposal [SEP] Improve Communication by @Links has achieved its intended short-term result without following through a complex bureaucratic route.

We have successfully convinced the Safe team to open up its discord servers for governance-related discussions and organise community calls on a regular base.

Moving forward, we aim to shed more light on the Safe DAO governance process and help the community to understand and engage in Safe DAO governance by building educational guides and manuals.

Our voting history

Track our voting history in all DAOs we participate

  1. SEP#1: SafeDAO Participation Agreement

Voting Choice: Accept the proposal Proof of vote

  1. [SEP #2] Community Initiative To Unpause Token Contract (Enabling Transferability)

Voting Choice: Make no Changes; Proof of vote

Rationale: The DAO hasn’t yet fully fleshed out its initial structure. As a result, the DAO’s initial months are critical for its success. DAOstewards squad believes it will be in the best interest of the Safe DAO to wait until the initial claiming period to unlock transferability. DAOstewards also acknowledge that the SafeDAO should be able to onboard new members and distribute voting right. As soon as the airdrop claim period is over.

  1. [SEP #3] Towards clarity on milestones before voting on enabling transferability again
  • Voting choice: Abstain: Proof of vote
  • Rationale: This was a varied position within our SAFE delegation, but ultimately we voted to abstain because of how the proposal passed through the governance process. The proposal was pushed through as quickly as possible, even when constructive feedback was given, and other proposals were currently in the pipeline. It could have benefited from some soft consensus and development, but the SAFE team wanted to get it on the books more than get the DAO involved. DAOstewards have voted to make no changes to SEP2 by acknowledging the safe token claim period duration and the necessity for the DAO to correct the internal structure.

[SEP #4] SafeDAO Constitution

voting: Make no Changes
comments: DAOstewards have voted ‘make no changes’ as we think the specifications proposed in the proposals are only amendable by large token holders and the core team. Community feedback isn’t properly incorporated.

[SEP #5] Redistributing Unredeemed Tokens From User Airdrop Allocation

Voted “A+B, using ½ for A and ½ for B”
The Original allocation had only considered ETH main net and no other chains! Distribution of tokens to a border range of people is essential.

[SEP #6] Safe Grants Program (SGP)
Voted: Accept
comments: The proposal for the grants program was well written, feedback from the community was addressed, and it’s clear that the proposers intend to iterate the program over time. We look forward to seeing the SafeDAO grants program take flight.

[SEP #7] Governance Framework
Voted: Accept
Comments: Although DAOstewards finds this governance framework to be complex and prescriptive, we believe it is in the DAO’s best interests to move forward with a governance framework that can be iterated upon in the future. For that reason we have voted to “Accept” SEP #7
