[CES] OBRA: Initiatives Reporting - March 2025

OBRA Updates

First, this reporting marks the end of our funded CES coverage. However, given the importance of continuity for existing initiatives and transparency into OBRA initiatives’ progress, we will continue to operate at full capacity until such time as additional funding infrastructure (ie. OBRA 2.0) is ratified.

The past few weeks have been exciting for OBRA and the broader Safe ecosystem, with the community engaging in iterative feedback sessions on capital allocation and how best to shape the next wave of OBRA while strengthening security efforts. We participated in each of these sessions and have synthesized some key takeaways from those discussions here:

  • Generally, there is agreement to redesign OBRA strategies to be more outcomes-based and KPI-driven. Learn more about the existing strategies here.
  • There was discussion around potentially sunsetting OBRA strategies that struggle to deliver tangible outcomes for Safe, including:
    • Strategy 1: Research and Implement Safe Token Utility
    • Strategy 4: Research Decentralization of Safe Stack
    • Strategy 5: Increase Governance Participation
  • Creating a Security Strategy to fund security-focused projects and provide audit grants.
  • Establishing an Operations Strategy/Budget to cover essential expenses (e.g., grants management infrastructure, reporting, and analytics).
  • Doubling down on Safe Module ecosystem growth (Strategy 2) by allocating capital toward module development.

We welcome additional feedback and encourage all community members and ecosystem contributors to share their thoughts in the forum thread → Call for Community Input: Strategic Direction and OBRA Funding Strategies.

Initiative Updates

  • Cometh, Gnosis Guild, and OneBalance (SEP 34) completed their final milestones and concluded their initiatives following a rescoping, as detailed in last month’s report.
  • Areta (SEP 52) completed all milestones for its Contributor Efficiency System (CES) initiative but has committed to ongoing grant management support for OBRA grantees beyond its original scope.

During this reporting period, we received 1 new OBRA application. While funding is temporarily paused, we encourage the community to engage with the proposal ahead of OBRA’s next phase:

Applications

To date, OBRA has maintained a total of 42 applications, of which 23 have been accepted by SafeDAO via governance. Increasing governance participation remains the strategy with the lion-share of OBRA applications.

Currently, there are no applications being voted on in snapshot. As always, to find the updated list of OBRA proposals and their details, see our Notion Hub here.

Initiative Outcomes

February saw 2 initiatives complete milestones for a total of 2 achieved milestones.

Initiative Milestone Completed
Areta [SEP 52] Milestone I: Operational Management & Continuity
Gnosis Guild [SEP 48] Milestone III: Development II

Following the OBRA restructuring, the CES was extended for a third term to ensure operational management and continuity for all OBRA grantees, providing onboarding, milestone-setting, tracking and reporting for OBRA initiatives. As mentioned above, the CES team (i.e, Areta) has completed all its milestones during this reporting period, but has committed to continue providing needed grant management support for OBRA grantees, as needed.

These updates, along with more details on the progress of OBRA initiatives for the past reporting period, will be reflected on our CES Reporting Summary page here.
