Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:

I have been actively building public goods & stewarding their funding and adoption since 2021. Having worked as a grants committiee reviewer at BanklessDAO combined with my background as analyst, I bring a great combination of work experience, skills and passion for proliferating public goods.

As a builder in the ‘Adoption of Web3’ space, based on my research and experience, I have concluded that web3 adoption is not only a UX/UI problem, but a narrative problem. If the best use case for web3 is an online casino, no amount of pretty UI will change that. Additionally, as smart contracts directly compete with legal contracts for the base layer of global coordination, the legacy system will continue to build barriers towards its adoption, because no one in power wants to willingly give it up. If we look at the history of paradigm shifts, especially, how society coordinates around a shared narrative, we find that the most convincing narrative is built by the system which actually delivers non-excludable and non-rivalrous to the masses. Thus, in order for us as a community of crypto builders to spur adoption, we need to deliver public goods better than the legacy system.

Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:

A couple of years ago I started my crypto journey when I joined Bankless DAO where I quickly went on to organising the Treasury Guild from scratch. Position that I held for over year.

In my time at Bankless DAO I also held the roles of Grants Committee Lead or NFT Curator.

As Grants Committee lead, I was responsible for administering the workflow of grant applications. Reviewing applications and voting on them. Preparing the agenda of the meetings and moderate them. Managing payments to the grantees. Collated seasonal budgets for the whole DAO and review them.

From Bankless I moved to Polygon where I held a few roles: Community Management lead, Grants Coordinator or BD.

As the Grants Coordinator, I was responsible for coordinating the grants programme withing Polygon Village which is the support framework for projects building on Polygon. This included reviewing projects, distributing projects to reviewers, communicating with teams regarding grants and how we could support them, oversee the distribution of funds and tracking the progression of the projects.

In addition to this, I assessed the support that every project needed and connected them to the right team or project to provide this support.

Throughout my web3 experience I have expanded my network in this sector. I met founders, influencers, and all sorts of people from the crypto space.

For me, the Grants Council isn’t just about funding projects. It’s about teamwork. It’s about putting the resources where they will make the biggest impact. It’s about collaborating so that every member of the Safe ecosystem can be proud of being web3.

​​What types of grant applications would you like to see?

–Education. I would like to see more content explaining the benefits of self-custody that Safe offers, the different features of Safe and how to use it.

– Safe integrations. I believe for Safe to grow, it is essential that Safe is used in a wide variety of apps. So, supporting more developers integrate Safe into their projects will be a win-win situation.

I’ve been contributing to the web3 space for 6 years now, having been part of early teams like Instadapp and Biconomy before starting Parcel in late 2020.

Leading Parcel (one of the earliest teams powered by safe), I’ve been building on the safe infrastructure for more than 2.5 years seeing it evolve from being a multisig with little infrastructure for integration to being the quintessential protocol for storing and managing crypto.

On the Business / Product side, I’ve worked with major organisations like ENS, banklessDAO, dydx, Index etc. to streamline their payroll/payments on safe multisig with transaction volume nearing $300 million (most by any DAO payments tooling)

I’m excited about the opportunity to grow the safe ecosystem to millions of users for which I feel well experienced and confident of making a strong impact.

  • Build your own smart account using modules and guards - extremely under-explored area to build custom logic for a variety of use cases, both business and consumer.

  • Network abstraction - multi-chain UX sucks, we can make it much better with one account for all networks using safe and its infrastructure.

I go by Rango, and I’m an ex-professional basketball player turned crypto degen, super passionate about Safe and Ethereum ecosystem in general.

I have a deep understanding of Web3 products and its surroundings from a business perspective. To be exact, I’m about 10000 hours deep into Web3. I have actively contributed to the growth of Web3 communities and I have put my money where my mouth is in ~100 different innovative projects. My current experience as Head of Marketing and Business Development of a crypto project in Zug, Switzerland, an educational dApp on Polygon Network called CryptoChefs, has provided me with valuable insights into business models from inside and out! I am constantly analyzing business opportunities for the project I’m building on and I am excited about the Grant Council Reviewer opportunity to be a part of Safe’s mission with builders and their grant applications. Most importantly, I look forward to supporting grantees in achieving their milestones. I take care of my money, and I will keep doing so with Safe’s grants.

I have been an investor for years and have been building at SpicyFi in two already working educational products. We use Safe for both of those products, btw. On top of managing the portfolio at LongHash Ventures (which has invested in Safe, Coinshift, and Cowswap; and is the only venture fund that’s a Safe Guardian), I have evaluated:

  • More than 400 projects across smart account infrastructure, web3 social, and DAO tooling,
  • More than 50 projects in the Safe ecosystem.

I specialise in sourcing and evaluating projects building smart account infrastructure because I’m passionate about improving crypto UX to onboard and retain the masses. I strongly align with Safe’s open, modular, and security-first approach to smart accounts, and believe that it will unlock the innovation necessary to serve as the default account infrastructure for the next waves of crypto users.

As part of project evaluation in the smart account infra space, I’ve already mapped out the landscape (by vertical and tech stack) and developed theses for the types of projects that would push the smart account & Safe ecosystems forward. Logic modules

  • Transaction delegation module that allows dApps/wallets to execute transactions for end-users within user-specified limits
  • Scam prevention module for Safe-powered wallets
  • Privacy module that obfuscates Safe transactions on-chain
  • A curated registry of Safe ecosystem modules

Execution & Infrastructure

  • Cross-chain abstraction of account creation and execution, closing the gaps between where Safe wallets are created and where transactions are executed
  • Secure session key storage infrastructure serving developers looking to integrate session keys to their Safe wallets
  • Decentralised paymasters that crowdsource tokens to ensure extensive token coverage

I’ve been in the Ethereum space since 2015 and I’ve experiences all its ups and downs. I have an extensive network and understanding of how Ethereum works and where it needs to go to achieve mass adoption and improve the world. I’m especially interested in making Ethereum useable for the masses and I believe that Safe and its focus on account abstraction is an important step in the right directions to do that.
I have been very interested in scaling Ethereum since the very early days and worked on the Raiden Network in order to achieve that. I believe the work we put in there paved the way for better alternatives over time.
More recently I’ve been running the Beamer Bridge team and have in this capacity several times realized how important a role AA will play in the future of Ethereum.
I am the proud owner of one of the first Safes deployed on mainnet dating back to early 2020 and I still have a Gnosis Multisig Wallet that I use from time to time.
I am already a Safe Guardian and a big fan of Safe.

What types of grant applications would you like to see?

  • Anything that makes Ethereum safer and easier to use for everyone
  • Projects that focus on making the use of Safes best practice in regards to asset management

Hi, I’ve been a supporter of Web3 since early 2020 and have contributed to several community-driven projects. Hi all, I’m Romina and until recently I have been supporting the open-source RWA lending protocol Centrifuge as CFO of Centrifuge Network Foundation. Since 2017 I have been working on shaping and launching various products in DeFi and blockchain-based securitization of digital assets. I’m passionate about creating efficient financial products, democratizing access to wealth-generating products for everyone and making financial transactions a human right. Particularly, I want to advocate for permissionless financial and banking infrastructure and self-sovereign accounts.

Before being CFO at Centrifuge, I have been leading the regulatory setup and operational business as COO at DSTOQ and Upvest. I was also the first employee of BIT Capital, a crypto and equities investment fund, and Elinvar, a white-label robo-advisor/portfolio manager after stints at Goldman Sachs and Uni Credit in equities and derivatives sales and trading.

Grants Program Management & Investments management:

Hi everyone. I am a repeat founder, YC alum and DAO governance, venture and public goods contributor from Ukraine. In 2017 I built CryptoHire - a platform for hiring blockchain engineers and paying them in crypto. It later became known as YouTeam, receiving backing from Y Combinator in 2018. Since then we have built it out into a highly profitable business. I moved on to supporting, consulting and advising startups.

I have been a contributor to a number of DAOs. Currently I am an elected member of a governance committee at Orange DAO as well as a member of the Venture Team there. As a governance team member I build and execute processes and rules for the seamless functioning of the DAO, as well as look after certain sub-committees such as Technoogy, Marketing, Membership etc. We are active users of SAFE multisigs as well as some products from the SAFE ecosystem (e.g. Multis).

As a Venture Team member I have reviewed many hundreds of applications and conducted numerous calls with startup founders raising their pre-seeds, seeds or looking for grant funding. I would love provide a positive contribution to the Safe Grants programme and I feel confident I can do this based on my ability and recent experience at Orange DAO.

SAFE ecosystem is naturally the most responsible, and capable of bringing deep fundamental changes at Wallet and Application level. It can enable the three transitions Vitalik speaks about in his latest piece

  • Multi-chain UX: Using Chain Abstraction, SAFE can provide multi-chain UX. Users can deploy SAFE and interact via it from any supported chain, using any token, all without ever leaving your UI. Opening access to DeFi opportunity for users.

  • Privacy-preserving fund-transfers: I would love to see solutions that are privacy-preserving and maintain onchain accountability of SAFE Treasury leveraging ZKPs

  • Any AA use case is relevant and SAFE is already spearheading one of three transitions “Smart Contract Wallets” . I would love to see more tool kits built for “Shared distributed verifiable systems (Github / OpenQ <> SAFE)”, “data daos (Filecoin <> SAFE)” etc.

There is a possibility that the SAFE ecosystem will offer comprehensive toolkits as verified and secure modules. Developers will have the opportunity to run these modules as SAFE nodes, opening up potential utilities for $SAFE.

Here’s why I’d make a great Grants Council Reviewer:

I’m an engineer with a strong analytical mind. This led me to become a data scientist. I worked in a company where we build software that help track software project KPIs.

A very famous quote “We can’t manage what we don’t measure” is something I learned, we were tracking many software metrics and had to choose from these metrics to build the most relevant dashboards. I participated in adding, creating, and displaying some new metrics. I also pushed forward the data science part by using machine learning to detect bugs in the source code.

If I’m elected as a member of the safe grant council I will promote the use of data to monitor and understand what makes a good application and a successful grantee other the long run. To successfully track those applications and grantees I will push forward for the creation of KPI. This will enable better reports and facilitate the next grant rounds.

Since November 2022, I have been a very active contributor to the OpenData Community. This community aims to mitigate fraud on the blockchain and data re-centralisation at the data layer. During these months I have participated in hackathons where I developed methods to automatically review project applications to Gitcoin grants you can find some of the points I have been raising in this Readme. I also developed an automated analysis to detect Sybil behavior on those grants to prevent a misallocation of funds. I furthermore mentored and trained hackathon participants to guide them in their sybil hunting and hackathon submission.

This experience gives me credibility around my capacity to review and analyze the problems at hand and come up with semi-automated methods that improve and facilitate the work of round operators.

Besides that, I’m used to meeting up with other crypto-passionate IRL in France every week. I’m more of a listener than a talker. I know that I will be so passionate about understanding and reviewing the projects that I will probably dedicate more time than expected.

  • Grantees that want to be involved at 100% in the project they are receiving a grant for.

Hi Safe DAO, my name is Brett and I’m very excited to be applying for a technical council seat!

I’m an active technical contributor to the Ethereum ecosystem who currently co-leads Cherry Crypto, a first check crypto fund. My efforts are focused around investing into and supporting the ecosystem’s best entrepreneurs and teams with research, technical support, and strategic mentorship, working closely with teams such as CoW Protocol and Morpho.

I first began my journey as a developer in the Ethereum ecosystem in 2017, when I joined Aragon as its lead engineer before transitioning into the CTO of Aragon One, Aragon’s seeding development organization. Along the way I’ve had the pleasure to contribute to projects such as Decentraland and Synthetix through either technical integrations or as a security board/multisig member.

My day-to-day responsibilities and strong technical background align well with the skillset needed to analyze, review, and mentor grantees. In particular, I have a long history of reviewing and supporting contributors from the smallest of bounties to the largest of grants—at Aragon we were amongst the first in the ecosystem to issue both small bounties and larger grants to seed now-prominent projects such as 1Hive, Althea, DappNode, Frame wallet, and Prysm. I’ve personally helped write, review, and judge both applications and grant funding milestones across many organizations and grantees.

Finally, a brief highlight of my technical background (expanded in later section): at Cherry Crypto, I help our portfolio CTOs with engineering topics and am routinely the first external reviewer to their codebases ahead of any professional auditors or other community members. Previously at Aragon, I led its prior flagship frontend, the Aragon Client, alongside its modular DAO-building framework in Solidity, aragonOS.

​​What types of grant applications would you like to see?

  • Extensions towards and unique integrations of Safe’s Safe{Core} SDKs: we’ve achieved the first million (well, actually almost 3m) Safes created, but I believe the next 100 million will come from developers leveraging their creativity to include the Safe as an account abstraction module in the next generation of workflow, operations, and user-facing wallet applications. The core Safe team has done an incredible job in seeding the initial developer toolkit but grants are a phenomenal way to open up the product process to be inclusive to the wider community.
  • Enhanced frontends or visual explorers: the core Safe frontend and backend infrastructure serve their purpose well, but will not be able to do everything for everyone as the space and usage of the Safe matures. One such example comes from Metropolis, which was started before Safe DAO came into existence, and which may have benefited from an early partnership with the core Safe team and DAO through an open grants process.
  • Exploratory work towards legal reconciliation and/or wrappers: as we’ve become keenly aware as of late, crypto is increasingly facing regulatory clarity and both DAOs and on-chain operations relying on the Safe are facing questions.
  • SafeDAO token economics: I would be remiss to not highlight grants programs as great avenues to encourage community members to help the core Safe team and wider SafeDAO ecosystem in exploring effective token economics.

  • I have a strong and proven technical background, aligning well with the skillset needed to review and judge grants from both their technical and business merits
